Dave's
Review
Hands down, this the finest In-Motion Satellite antenna
on the market.
At only 12
1/2 inches tall it will blend in with the roof a/c units and
is very easy to install. It also maintains a dome
configuration so you won't have a problem with rain setting
on it like many of the flat surface antennas on the market.
There is only one coaxial cable to run to the roof, and four
mounting feet to glue and screw down. There is an indoor
power supply that takes 110v a/c and converts it to 24
volts. It has an indoor control unit and a
display/controller, that is placed inside the RV. No
additional bulky equipment is required and no modification
of cabinets are necessary.
This antenna comes set up for one satellite receiver but can
easily be converted for up to 4 or more satellite receivers
still utilizing just the one cable.
The Tracstar SV360 uses a compass and region along with DVB
technology to quickly find the satellite of your choice with
just a couple of buttons to push.
No computer is needed to select the satellite - it can be
performed with the display unit itself. The United States is
sectioned into nine regions: Washington and Oregon are
region one from the West Coast - to Florida in region nine
on the East Coast.
If you were to drive from region one to region nine without
using the antenna, you can speed up the search
sequence by selecting the region you are currently in. If
you do not, it will go into a wide scan searching for any satellite
signal. Once it has located a signal, it will then know
where to find the satellite that you have selected.
Since there are no cables that have to unwind you could
drive in a circle all day long and never need to have the
antenna stop, unwind and find the satellite.
Software updates can be performed by calling TracStar
to request the program module be mailed to them, or the user
may by use of a laptop
download from the website then use the serial
port and a cable from Radio Shack to flash the software. With
the advanced programming that goes into the SV360 software
updates are rare. In fact it has been
over 2 years since the last update
DirecTV HDTV compatibility is easy with the New TracStar
SV360 and the upgrade module. The antenna will automatically
switch your selected pair. Select 101/119 and when the
channel is selected the antenna will
automatically switch to that satellite. If 101/110 is
selected the antenna will go to the 110 satellite. The
module is needed since broadcast from the 110 satellite
would require a different lnb. Tracstar has figured out how
to modify the lnb signal through this module for this
difference.
I
must tell you that out of all of the systems on the market
today, this still has the reliability that you
expect.
